Chocolate Raspberry Milkshake (in English and Spanish)

Last week, I spent four days on a field trip with the rest of the junior class at my school to learn about the Civil Rights Movement from a closer and more personal perspective. To do that, we traveled on a bus for countless hours to Georgia and Alabama. While planning for the trip, I got a little worried about what I would eat. The south isn't known for its vegan options, so I packed about 25 Larabars with me just in case. Luckily, there were some good vegan options available (props to my school for making sure that I had vegan food!). But I did miss making my own food - especially banana smoothies.

The first morning that I was back in my own house, I made this smoothie as an attempt to make up for all of the lost days of smoothies that I missed while traveling. And it certainly made up for it!

I have been so excited to share this new recipe with you guys! It has recently become my favorite breakfast (which is saying a lot, because I am a total breakfast person) - it tastes amazing, is super easy, and looks pretty too. I love any kind of vegan banana smoothie, but this one has definitely popped up at the top of my list! It has a great balance of tart raspberries and sweet banana. There's just enough chocolate to taste it without overpowering the other flavors. Taste it and tell me what you think!

In English:

Chocolate Raspberry Milkshake
(makes 1 milkshake)

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar (optional - I left it out so that I'd have more of a tart milkshake.)
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup water

Directions:
  1. In a tough blender, combine the raspberries, sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. Puree the raspberries in the blender for 1-2 minutes; the longer you do this, the fewer raspberry seeds will show up in the milkshake.
  2. Pour the raspberry puree out into another container and rinse the blender.
  3. Refill the blender with the banana, cocoa powder and 1/4 cup of water. Pulse the blender until the bananas have the smooth consistency of a milkshake. (You may have to stop the blender a few times to stir the frozen banana bits.)
  4. Put the chocolate-banana slush in a glass while occasionally pouring in some of the raspberry puree. Add a straw and enjoy!

En Español:

Batido de Chocolate y Frambuesas
(hace 1 batido)

Ingredientes:

SO pretty! I could just stare at it all day:D

Totally know what you mean about packing 25 larabars for a journey - in the UK we have Nakd bars, which seem like a close equivalent. On a recent trip to Oslo I took 20+ with me. Those things are lifesavers! xD

Awwww! Thanks, Shonalika! You're making me blush. I'm pretty sure I've heard of Nakd bars - I definitely need to try some though. Have a great day!

These photos turned out great. I like how the background is dark. It contrasts with the light colored focal point (the smoothie)
